June 18th -24th"Veg Head Quarters" Volunteer Sign Up

The Vegetarian Information Group of Rochester is back at Rochester Fest this year sponsored again by the Good Food Store and Bread Baker, serving vegan sandwiches, Back Room Deli salads, soy dream and wheat grass! We are seeking volunteers to join us for the fun and joy of introducing healthy vegetarian food to Rochesterfest.

What types of things will volunteers be doing?

Promoting – Handing out samples, answering questions, describing menu items
Serving – Getting drinks, serving the food
Cashiering – Writing orders down, handling money
Food Prep – Cleaning and slicing veggies, defrosting, slicing bread, marinating tofu, mixing sauces
Cooking – Grilling, steaming, juicing, putting out samples, making sandwiches
Cleanup – Washing dishes, sweeping, organizing
Shifts (Subject to slight changes):
Morning – 9:30AM to 1:30PM (Setup and Lunch crowd)
Afternoon – 1:30PM to 5:30PM (Slow down, cleanup and prep)
Evening – 5:30PM to 9:30PM (Later on Thursday - Saturday) Dinner Crowd and Cleanup

Animal Passions and Beastly Virtues: Happy Hounds, Pissy Baboons, and Playful Pigs “Do animals really have feelings?” Dr. Marc Bekoff explores the possibility in his riveting talk about the emotional lives of animals.

In this lively presentation world-renowned animal behaviorist and author Dr. Marc Bekoff will combine his essays and innovative research with what is known to scientists about the emotional world of animals. He is sure to amuse attendees with his unique observations of play and friendships among animals ranging from dogs and cats to dolphins and pigs, ultimately challenging the idea that science and the ethical treatment of animals are incompatible.

Bekoff is esteemed for his work in cognitive ethology (the study of
animal minds), behavioral ecology, and animal behavior. He has published
18 books and has been featured on 48 Hours, Animal Planet, and the
Discovery Channel, as well as in Time, and National Geographic. Bekoff
is a professor of biology at the University of Colorado and a co-founder
with Jane Goodall of Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The Vegetarian Information Group of Rochester is back at Rochester Fest this year sponsored again by the Good Food Store and Bread Baker, serving vegetarian sandwiches, Back Room Deli salads, soy dream and carrot juice! We are seeking volunteers to join us for the fun and joy of introducing healthy vegetarian food to Rochesterfest.

What types of things will volunteers be doing?

Promoting – Handing out samples, answering questions, describing menu items
Serving – Getting drinks, serving the food
Cashiering – Writing orders down, handling money
Food Prep – Cleaning and slicing veggies, defrosting, slicing bread, marinating tofu, mixing sauces
Cooking – Grilling, steaming, juicing, putting out samples, making sandwiches
Cleanup – Washing dishes, sweeping, organizing
Shifts (Subject to slight changes):
Morning – 9:30AM to 1:30PM (Setup and Lunch crowd)
Afternoon – 1:30PM to 5:30PM (Slow down, cleanup and prep)
Evening – 5:30PM to 9:30PM (Later on Thursday - Saturday) Dinner Crowd and Cleanup

10/22/05 Who would like to help leaflet at the Women's Expo from 9:00 am to 11:00. We will be handing out Vegetarian Starter Kits.

There is the Shrine Circus also going on that day. We will be handing out It's an Elephant's Life comic book to the kids with a flyer to the parents inside the book. Those time will be at 10:15 am -11:00 am & 2:15 pm-3:00 pm. This is all going to happen in the skyway that leads to the Mayo Civic Center. I'm going to be there from 9:00am -3:00 pm handing to both events. Busy Day!!!!!

11/20/05 The Vegetarian Information Group of Rochester is having their 5th Vegetarian Thanksgiving Dinner from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm November 20, Sunday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1100 37th St.NW Rochester, MN.

Tickets may be purchased at the Back Room Deli located at the Good Food Store (289-9061)
Cost is $12. VIGOR members are $10. children, 6-12 pay $5, and those younger are free. $15 at the door. Seating is limited. For more information, call 254-8349 or visit www.vigr.org

Dr. Mary Ann McNeilus has returned from southeast Asia, the site of recent outbreaks of the Bird Flu. She, along with Dr. Mirian Silveria will address concerns about this potential pandemic during the event.
